Introduction Post

Hello, my name is Cory Vaile. I’m a senior at San Francisco State University studying visual communication design. I love creating art that has utility, within the framework of design. My main focus is creating typefaces. I also enjoy painting, photography and illustration. In my free time I enjoy riding my bike, hiking, and cooking. My favorite two cuisines to cook and experiment with at home are Italian and Japanese. As a designer I draw much of my influences of form and color from nature. I love experiencing nature and exploring the natural color palettes of the world. Much of my design philosophy influence stems from Bruno Munari. Artists that I would cite as influences are Robert Irwin, Sol Lewitt, and Ellsworth Kelly in their sense of perception and awareness of space. As a designer, I love developing beautiful and efficient projects that help solve problems for people in the world. My aspirations within my career are to create engaging projects that impact people's lives through art and design.

Three words I would use to describe me are imaginative, affable, and resourceful.

For my three images I've selected an abstract painting study I created, a sample typeface I've designed, and a photo I took during my last hike.

  2. Hi Cory
Whoa, the typeface you made is freaking awesome! If you made a full set, would you put it out for public use or for sale? I think it'd be pretty successful. I love to see more of your abstract paintings!
